Continuum (D.163.7)

The Heritage Molteni&C catalog celebrates the addition of the Continuum armchair (D.163.7) to the 2024 Collection, designed by Gio Ponti in 1963 for Bonacina. This project exemplifies the strong connection between the manufacturing brands in Brianz leaders in the design furniture sector, united by their dedication to preserving their local roots and distinctive craftspeopleship skills.
In the case of the Continuum, artisanal mastery is showcased through the working of rattan, a natural material that is meticulously woven, bent, and shaped at every stage without the use of any machinery. Continuum draws inspiration from some bergère chairs conceived in the early 1950s for hotels and cruise ships and is now part of the permanent collection at the Triennale Design Museum. The design aims to give consistency and form to the idea of a continuous, sinuous brushstroke, inspired by organic shapes, embodied by the uninterrupted line running from the headrest to the armrest. Entirely made in Italy, the armchair exclusively uses top-quality rattan materials – manao and malacca – sourced from Indonesian equatorial forests.
Presented by Molteni&C in the version with rattan frame aniline stained in Moro finish, the cushioning is available in a wide range of carefully selected textile and leather. With this project, Molteni&C renews its commitment to promoting Gio Ponti's heritage, in collaboration with Gio Ponti Archives, ensuring the authenticity of the furniture.
